  • Understand the role of gated SPECT and PET in coronary artery disease and non ischemic cardiomyopathies
  • Identify the implications of left ventricular function testing for clinical management
  • Understand how arrythmias can affect ECG gating
Overall Goal

Statement of Need
An estimated 80 Million American adults (approximately 1 in 3) have 1 or more types of cardiovascular disease (CVD) with over 30 Million estimated to be under 60 years of age. According to the Centers for Disease Control “Heart Disease Fact Sheet”, in 2006 heart disease was the leading cause of death for both men and women and a total of 26%—or more than one in every four—of all deaths were caused by heart disease. Further, in the United States, one person has a heart attack every 34 seconds and one person dies from a heart disease-related event every minute.
